The Treasurer is a Constitutional Officer and is elected every four years as established by the Virginia Constitution. The primary responsibilities of the treasurer are to collect and account for all tax revenues for the City of Hampton. We are dedicated to providing the citizens of Hampton with professional, efficient and courteous service and we are committed to exceeding your expectations. About the Treasurer Robert S. WilliamsIn 2004 Robert retired from the Hampton Police Division at the rank of Major. During his 31 year tenure he held numerous command level positions with the majority of his career focusing on criminal investigations. He specialized in investigating and supervising high profile crimes, including homicides and long term narcotic and gambling cases. As a result of his extensive knowledge and experience in this area of law enforcement he returned to the Investigative Unit as the Commander, setting a new standard for investigating cases that is still in effect today. As a Police Major he was the Commander of Police Operations which oversaw all day to day uniform and investigative functions. His final assignment, prior to retirement, was as the Administrative Branch Commander. He used his vast operational experience to help bring needed training and technology throughout the Division. Upon retirement he joined the Treasurer's Office as a Field Investigator and in 2005 was appointed to the position of Chief Deputy Treasurer. In a special election in November 2008, Robert was elected Treasurer for the City of Hampton. Education
