Natural Gas Utility Tax

The City of Hampton, VA imposes a monthly utility tax on purchasers of natural gas service. This tax is in addition to the consumption tax. It is levied on a "per meter" basis, on each purchase of natural gas delivered to customers by a service provider. Service providers must charge this tax to and collect this tax from purchasers. It must be remitted to the City monthly, no later than the last day of the month following the month of collection. The rates are as follows:

• Residential: $1.98 + $0.191 per ccf; $2.40 maximum tax
• Commercial, Industrial & Other: $2.78 + $0.135199 per each of first 130 ccfs + $0.032578 thereafter; $65.00 maximum tax
