Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) is a standard time reference used during many types of operations. UTC provides a common time reference for worldwide coordination. UTC helps to overcome the problems associated with different time zones and changes that occur due to daylight savings time.
Universal Coordinated Time is the time at the zero or reference meridian. Time changes one hour with each change of 15º in longitude. The five time zones in the U.S. proper and Canada roughly follow these lines.
