On behalf of the City of Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue (HDFR), I would like to thank you for taking time to visit our website. We are hopeful that the information contained within the site will provide residents and visitors an opportunity to obtain useful information regarding the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue.
The City of Hampton, Virginia, population 136,000 is a community of 53-square-miles, located in the Hampton Roads Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). Hampton is nestled along the beautiful Chesapeake Bay and graced with miles of shoreline and breathtaking water views. Hampton is home to Langley Air Force Base, NASA Langley Research Center, and the Veterans Administration Hospital that services more than 220,000 veterans annually. In spite of all this, it retains a distinct small-town feel. We also have the historic Hampton University, Thomas Nelson Community College, and a 10,000 seat Coliseum that is a regular stop for national recording artists. Two major interstate highways, I-64 and I-664, serve the area. Established in 1610, Hampton is one of America’s oldest cities.
The HDFR proudly provides a broad range of services through a combination career and volunteer system comprised of 279 uniform and civilian employees and 125 volunteer firefighters. Collectively, the Division provides fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to the citizens of Hampton while partnering with other local and regional emergency service agencies. The HDFR provides service from 10 fire stations strategically located throughout the city, and we recently broke ground on a new, state-of-the-art 14,500 square foot station.
The City of Hampton has become a dynamic city. As the City continues to change, the HDFR is also changing to meet the diverse needs of the community. We are an equal opportunity, progressive organization whose goal is to provide the most efficient and effective delivery of emergency services to the citizens and visitors of Hampton, Virginia.
HDFR has an array of volunteer opportunities available.
