Hampton was founded on July 9, 1610. The City of Hampton is the oldest continuous English speaking settlement in the new world.

The West End Hose Company was accepted into full membership with the Hampton Department.

Riverview Volunteer Fire Department was organized.

Wythe Fire Company and the Riverview Volunteer Fire Department merged into the Wythe District Fire Department.
The first American Red Cross Life Saving and First Aid Class was held.
The first fire school was held.
The present Phoebus Station was built and consisted of a courthouse, jail, and the fire station.
Wythe Fire Company Rescue Squad was organized.
An auxiliary fire department was organized to provide additional fire protection during World War II. This auxiliary disbanded after the war.
Phoebus First Aid Squad formed.
Buckroe Beach Fire Company was initially organized.
The Hampton Civil Defense Fire Service officially inaugurated to provide a group of professionally trained volunteer citizens to cope with any emergency or disaster that might occur at a time when existing fire services were overtaxed.
The County of Elizabeth City merged with the Town of Phoebus and the City of Hampton.
