"Operation Rescue" began. This program placed reflector-type stickers on homes of non-ambulatory, blind, or bedridden citizens to allow rapid rescue in the event of a fire.

John W. Schwartz appointed Fire Marshal. U.S. Marine A6A Saber Jet Intruder crashes in the Fordham area of City.

Willow Oaks station, Station #7, the first "paid" station, was built. Fire Prevention Bureau established.

First Emergency Medical Technicians certified. Classes coordinated by Bill Smith and Lee Webb and taught by Dr. Forrest McCoig and other staff from Dixie Hospital.

NASA contracts out fire and EMS service to the City of Hampton.

"Briarfield" station, Station #9, was built.

Richard C. Blakeslee appointed Fire Marshal. Department Head position of Fire Marshal changed to Fire Chief.
