As part of the Base Realignment and Closure process (BRAC), the Army is planning to vacate Fort Monroe in 2011. The Fort operates as a joint Department of Defense facility, surrounded by a variety of commands in the heart of Hampton Roads. It is located in the center of the concentration of four star commands in the Joint Environment of Hampton Roads, including the Training and Doctrine Command, the Air Combat Command, the United States Fleet Forces Command, the Joint Forces Command, and the NATO Allied Command. Commands located at the Fort include Training and Doctrine Command Headquarters; Training and Doctrine Command Futures Center; Joint Task Force - Civil Support; United States Army Accessions Command; United States Army Cadet Command & School of Cadet Command; United States Army Network Command Northeast Region Headquarters; Naval Surface Warfare Center; Installation Management Agency Northeast Region Office. |
