Asset #25 - Reading For Pleasure - Young person reads for pleasure for three or more hours per week.

With your kids conduct a survey in your home. Select a "quiet" space or choose a time of day during which the number of distractions can be reduced. Download the poster below and place it in the area of your home which you and your children have chosen to read to each other or simply to read together for at least 30 minutes each day. Maintain the expectation of spending this time together. It gives each child their own time with a special adult in their lives.



Books seem to have the ability to lift us up when we're down and give us new insights when we think we've heard it all. Books can make us feel good; they can challenge us. Reading is an important asset (Asset 25) to build in children. On the following handout, write the titles of four children's books that have been important to you. If you can't think of children's books, name four books that have been important to you as an adult.
