Carter Nelson Nellie Catlett
Carter Nelson "Nellie" Catlett
1985 Hall of Fame Inductee

His forte was versatility in becoming an all-time great at Hampton High School and Virginia Military Institute. He was of all-star caliber in football and baseball, a high-point man in track (setting javelin records) and above average in basketball. The now-retired NASA engineer's pro aspirations were ended when "Nellie" went directly from VMI into World War II, winning Silver Star and Bronze Star Medals. After the war, he devoted himself to semipro baseball and coaching Little League and American Legion teams for which he won "Man of the Year" (1962).
