Dick Carneal
Richard "Dick" Carneal
2005 Hall of Fame Inductee

Dick Carneal played football at Hampton High School from 1947 to 1948, earning all-state and All-America honors. He was one of the first, if not the first, high school player from the Peninsula to be named to an All-America team. His success as a running back in the double-wing offense led to his appearance in a national all-star game following his senior year. Dick played at North Carolina State University before an injury ended his career. In addition to football, Carneal played basketball and ran track for the Crabbers. Also, he was an outstanding baseball player, but Hampton didn't have a baseball team at that time.
