Gordon E. Lamkin 1982 Hall of Fame Inductee He was an armed forces boxing champion and heavyweight king of the South after World War I. He devoted over 50 years of his life to community, YMCA, and The Apprentice School sports as founder, athletic director and coach. He coached teams in baseball, basketball, football, and track and field. He was honored as "Man of the Year" by the Peninsula Sports Club in 1953 for his long-time service to athletics. He died June 11, 1972 at age 78. |
