A dynamic legend on and off the athletic field, his basketball and track teams at Newport News High School captured 27 state crowns and nearly 40 district titles. His basketball teams alone chalked up 321 victories in 389 games. "Typhoon" alumni, he coached at NNHS 44 years, retiring in 1970. He received the National High School Coaches Association Award in 1968.
