La'Keshia Frett
La'Keshia Frett
2002 Hall of Fame Inductee

La'Keshia was born in Carmel, CA on June 12, 1975 and later moved to Hampton. La'Keshia attended Spratley Middle School but surprisingly, she did not begin playing organized basketball until she attended Phoebus High School. Under the tutorledge of Coach Mike Talon, she soon became a talented player and led the basketball team to the 1992 VHSL AAA State Championship. During her high school days she also participated in the Boo Williams Summer League Basketball Program where she honed her skills and got a chance to travel literally around the world playing in tournaments. While at Phoebus she was selected All Peninsula District and All State First Team. Her jersey has been retired at Phoebus High School.

Nine years after graduating from high school she still holds the Virginia High School League records for highest scoring average in a season - 32.9- 1993; most career points - 3,290; most career rebounds - 1,556; the only player to score more than 1,000 points in a season; 2nd in career steals - 452; 2nd in career blocked shots - 336; and second in career scoring average - 28.1. La'Keshia attended the University of Georgia and played under their legendary coach Andy Landers, where she was selected 1993 Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year; 3-time ALL SEC First Team; 96-97 USBWA All American First Team; and played in two Final Fours. When she left UGA she was the No.4 all-time leading scorer with 1,850 points; No. 6 in rebounds 842; No. 6 in blocked shots 85; and No. 8 in assists 315. She fell just 11 steals shy of No. 10 position on that career list, which would have made her the only player to etch her name in those five categories top 10.

La'Keshia played for two seasons for the Philadelphia Rage in the ABL and in 1999 was the 40th selection in the WNBA draft by the LA Sparks. She currently plays for the Sacramento Monarchs. At the time of induction, La'Keshia is the youngest player ever to be inducted into the Lower Peninsula Hall of Fame.
