Robert F. "Bobby" Spangler
1992 Hall of Fame Inductee

Robert F. "Bobby" Spangler, of Newport News, attended Newport News High School where in the 1930's he played four sports and was an All-State Basketball and Football player. At Duke University he was an All-Conference Football Player and played center, blocking and running back positions. A member of the famed "Iron Dukes," he played in the 1939 Rose Bowl game, losing 7-3. After graduation he coached at the high school and college levels. He also coached the Newport News Builders. He is a member of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.
