Walter Bowser 2005 Hall of Fame Inductee Affectionately called "Wonderful Walt," Walter Bowser was a phenomenon at Huntington High School. He played football, basketball and tennis, and ran track for one year. In football, he passed for 3,136 yards and 42 touchdowns in his only two years at quarterback, leading the Vikings to the 1966 VIA state championship. In basketball, he scored 1,462 points, and he won seven state and national tennis championships. Bowser was the first black player in the state named to the sportswriters and sportscasters all-state football and basketball teams. He went on to play football, basketball and tennis at the University of Minnesota. |
