June 18, 2010

Great American Cleanup Campaign in Hampton

The 2010 Great American Cleanup Campaign in Hampton ended May 31, and most of the numbers are in!

The statistics are awe-inspiring:

  • 3 months
  • 3,500 volunteers
  • 6,415 hours of service in cleaning, beautifying, and raising environmental awareness in Hampton
  • Removed an estimated 13,865 pounds of litter and 36,325 cigarette ends from our public areas
  • Planted trees, and flowers
  • Helped educate more than 2,000 youth and adults
  • Staffed or sponsored 9 displays or litter-free events
  • Read to or led activities for more than 1,000 students

When you travel down a clean street, see small trees growing beside clean waterways, or hear a child mention Michael Recycle, think of these volunteers.

The Hampton Clean City Commission wants to express its deepest appreciation to them, and we encourage you to thank them when you meet them. Hampton is a cleaner and greener city because of the efforts of these individuals and groups.
