The Hampton Clean City Commission is a member of HR CLEAN, a regional association of clean community and recycling organizations from both the Peninsula and Southside. The purpose of HR CLEAN is to promote litter control, recycling, beautification, and general environmental awareness through educational projects designed to reach all sectors of our regional community.

Each locality is represented at a monthly meeting which serves as a forum to exchange ideas, collaborate on joint projects, and solve problems.

HR CLEAN sponsors a number of regional educational efforts:

• Recycling and litter prevention television and radio advertisements
• Trashanator 2 educational assemblies for schools
• Educational efforts directed toward specific audiences, such as police departments and marina operators
• An annual clean community board member conference
• An activity booklet for 3rd through 5th grade students and their families
• A grant program for youth groups
