LaSalle Avenue from Pembroke to Settlers Landing Needs AdoptionJuly 19, 2010LaSalle Avenue between Pembroke Avenue and Settlers Landing Road needs a caring group to keep it clean. This section of LaSalle Avenue is a busy stretch that includes a fast food restaurant, a gas station convenience store, and a small shopping center. The site is near one of the more littered areas identified by last year’s Litter Index. Hampton’s Adopt-A-Spot program provides material support and recognition to individuals and groups who commit to keeping a public space clean through five or more cleanups per year. Adopters generally do more than clean up – they also suggest ways to improve the maintenance of their spots or they pinpoint problem areas so city staff can seek a solution. Adopt-A-Spot participants can access litter sticks, safety vests, work gloves, and trash bags for their cleanups. After their second cleanup a sign with their name on it is placed on an existing pole at or near the site. Adopters are invited to the annual Hampton Clean City Commission volunteer recognition event and are recognized by media releases, advertisements, and other means throughout the year. If your group is the special one who will adopt this segment of LaSalle Avenue, an application form can be requested online or by e-mailing hccc@hampton.gov or calling 727-1130.
