2010 Hampton Clean Business Award Winner

The Hampton Clean City Commission’s Clean & Green Businesses Committee selected Emmanuel Episcopal Church as the Winter 2010 Hampton Clean Business Award winner. The award was presented at a recent Virginia Peninsula Clean Business Forum breakfast at the Crowne Point Hampton Marina Hotel. Hampton Parks & Recreation Director Jim Wilson presented “Landfill to PARfect Course”, an overview of the history of The Hamptons Golf Course, at the event.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church was selected by the committee based on its strong and long-term environmental efforts. Emmanuel Episcopal Church has actively participated in the Clean City Commission’s Adopt-A-Spot program since 1997. In 2002, members of the church led a massive tree planting along Mercury Boulevard between Andrews Boulevard and Pembroke Avenue. More recently, members of Emmanuel Episcopal has been instrumental in leading a green church effort.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church maintains a beautiful landscape while looking beyond its property borders, practices good stewardship in a number of ways, and educates others in the community about keeping our community clean and green.

The Virginia Peninsula Clean Business Forum is a coalition comprised of representatives from Clean Community Organizations in the cities of Newport News and Hampton and the counties of James City and York. The purpose of the Virginia Peninsula Clean Business Forum is to promote environmental improvements in the business communities through litter control, recycling, and beautification. Quarterly meetings are held for the purpose of educating members on techniques, programs, and resources that can be used to enhance both the physical and visual environment and to recognize businesses who serve as examples to others.
