Announcing Hampton’s Winning YARDS of JuneJuly 20, 2010![]() The Beautification Committee of the Hampton Clean City Commission is pleased to announce the Yards Are Really Distinctive Showplaces (YARDS) winners for the month of June! Congratulations to Sharon Blevins (Tanglewood Drive), Carlton & Eunice Hedgepeth (Bowen Drive), and Raynard Vinson (Ethel Drive) for having the most distinctive yards in June. The yards were evaluated on their curb appeal, plant selections, scale and proportion of their homes and landscapes, maintenance, energy and water conservation measures, and special features. In other words, their beauty and their reduced environmental impact made them winners. These yards were nominated by someone in the general public, the owners received and returned nomination forms, and YARDS Judges volunteers evaluated them and others, selecting these yards as the best! In other words, it takes a community to recognize people who keep Hampton beautiful by keeping their yards beautiful. If you know someone who has a beautiful yard, don’t let them go unrecognized!
Beautiful communities hold their property values better, are safer, and are more enjoyable. Do your part to thank those who make our city more beautiful with their home landscaping efforts! Worried about the impact of the drought on your neighbor’s chances to win Yard of the Month? Don’t be. Distinctive yards maintain their beauty even in drought. The grass may be blond (yellow or tan), but the structure and function of good yards are still very visible, and the fact that nominees aren’t wasting precious water during a drought will count in their favor. Blond is beautiful when it comes to summer drought yards – take the time to nominate a beautiful blond yard today!
