- Start talking with your child about
kindergarten. Concentrate on the positive aspects of
school; not how much you'll miss him or her. The
positive aspects can include: making new friends,
playing with new toys, getting to be a 'big kid',
and learning new things.
- Be sure your child has received all
necessary immunizations and a physical exam by the
school's deadline. Contact the school to find out
what he/she will need.
- Pre-register your child for
kindergarten (usually in May or June). Find out what
skills your child is expected to have achieved
before entering kindergarten.
- Plan a visit to the school with
your child. Seeing the school and meeting staff will
help reduce fears and anxiety.
- Keep a time chart to count down the
days before school. This will provide an opportunity
for the you to talk about the changes that entering
school will bring.
