Last Update: 01/30/10 - 8:20AM

  • Due to inclement weather Hampton declared a local state of emergency at 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2010 and activated the Emergency Operations Center at midnight. For additional information please see press release.

  • All Hampton libraries, parks, community centers, and golf courses will be closed on Saturday, January 30 due to inclement weather conditions.

  • The National Weather Service is predicting a winter weather system to hit our area on Friday and continue through Saturday and into Sunday morning. Hampton city personnel are currently preparing streets for snowfall and will continue to monitor the situation.

  • Citizens are encouraged to stay tuned to local television stations, view Hampton City Channel TV47, call 311 in Hampton (727-8311 outside of Hampton or from a cell phone), and sign up for eNews messages at www.enews.hampton.gov to stay informed during the storm.

Other winter weather safety tips include:

  • Do not drive unless it is absolutely necessary. Use extreme caution if travel is unavoidable.

  • Avoid overexertion during clean up. Shoveling snow or pushing a car can bring on a heart attack or make other medical conditions worse.

  • Supply your car with an emergency kit that includes water, food, a battery-powered radio, blankets, flashlight and extra batteries.

  • Visit www.ReadyVirginia.gov for more tips and details on the storm.
