Cable TV Franchise Agreements

The City of Hampton, Virginia has three cable television franchise agreements. Cavalier, Cox Communications, and Verizon all offer digital cable television services to customers as well as telephone and Internet access. The cable systems serve up to 60,000 households in Hampton.

Agreement
Coordination of the City's Cable Franchise is provided by the Information Technology Department. Other departments included in Franchise administration include the City Attorney's Office and the City Manager's Office.
 
FCC
Federal Communications Commission regulations limit the City's ability to regulate cable franchises. Areas in which the City has regulatory power are generally limited to the Basic programming tier and customer service issues.
