Celebrating Black History Month in Hampton
An Afternoon of Drama, Music, Dance and Discussion
The public is invited to celebrate Black History Month at a special event featuring guest speaker Eleanor Earl, Hampton University professor of cinema studies and co-author of Black Behind the Scenes of American Film and Television. Earl co-wrote the book with legendary film producer Monty Ross, who worked with Spike Lee on such groundbreaking films as Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X, and She’s Gotta Have It.
The program will include an original play, Ordinary People Can Make a Difference, written by local playwright Marie St. Clair and performed by Innertainer Performance Troupe, as well as performances by the West Hampton Community Center Choir and Beauty for Ashes Dance and Theatre Company. Professor Earl will also be signing her book following the program.
The event will be held at West Hampton Community Center, 1638 Briarfield Road, on February 19 at 2 p.m.
West Hampton Community Center strives to present quality cultural arts programs for the community at little or no cost. For more information contact Marie St. Clair at 896-4692 or mstclair@hampton.gov.
