The 60,000-square-foot NIA headquarters building was developed by Craig Davis Properties, Inc. on property acquired from the City of Hampton's Industrial Development Authority. NIA is a $30 million non-profit research and graduate education institute involving more than 200 professors, researchers, staff and students. It conducts leading-edge aerospace and atmospheric research, develops new technologies for the nation and helps inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. The NIA consortium, led by the National Institute of Aerospace Associates, is made up of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Foundation, Reston, VA; Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA; North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Greensboro, NC; North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC; University of Maryland, College Park, MD; University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA; and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, VA.
