HistoryThe Hampton Neighborhood Office is a city department that provides management and staffing to the Neighborhood Initiative and provides staff as consultants to neighborhood organizations in building their capacity to improve neighborhoods. This department was created in 1993 after the city set forth in its strategic plan that healthy neighborhoods would be a priority as it is critical to the future of Hampton. People make a neighborhood, and people direct its future. Using talent and resources in partnership, people shape the look and feel of a neighborhood to meet needs they identify. Each neighborhood is distinct and has different needs and goals. The City of Hampton wants to ensure that each neighborhood reaches its full potential by providing neighborhoods and the people in them with the resources they need to meet their unique needs and goals. One of the ways the city does this is through the Neighborhood Office.
