Nestled on the wonderful Chesapeake Bay, Buckroe Beach has a well balanced mixture of seasoned and young residents, singled and married families and spacious and modest homes. HIGHLIGHTS: Lifeguards are on duty during the summer season with kayak, paddle boats, chair & umbrella rental and picnic shelters available. The park pavilion is the site of outdoor concerts and movie series during the summer. Buckroe is home to the city's first "Bark Park", a park exclusively for man's best friend. HISTORY: In 1620, Frenchman sent over to plant Mulberry trees and grape vines settled here. The name was taken from a place in England. Buckroe Beach is one of the oldest recreational areas in Virginia. In 1882, the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway extended tracks to the area and was soon followed by a boarding house for summer visitors and a public bath house for tourists. In 1897, a local entrepreneur extended his electric trolley car line to Buckroe, opened a hotel, a pavilion for dancing and an amusement park.
