Registered Neighborhood Organization
Becoming a Registered Neighborhood Organization constitutes a pledge to participate and be a partner in the Hampton Neighborhood Initiative.
Purpose:
In becoming a Registered Neighborhood Organization, an organization can:
- Assess and improve your organization's effectiveness
- Generate and foster community pride
- Receive numerous benefits, including:
- Recognition by Hampton City Council and the Neighborhood Commission
- Technical assistance inyour organization's outreach efforts
- Linkage from the Hampton Neighborhood Office web page to an existing website
- Priority access to training opportunities, including the Neighborhood College
- Copying privileges at the Kenneth Wallace Neighborhood Resource Center (1000 free copies – organization must provide paper, additional copies at cost)
- One year access to Neighborhood Office bulk mail permit (Organization will be billed for the cost of postage)
- Access to funding:
- Capacity Building Grants (Training, Consultation, and Outreach) - Registered Neighborhood Organizations can receive up to $500 to strengthen their capacity in relation to the HNI guiding principles
- Neighborhood Improvement Funds - Registered Neighborhood Organizations can receive up to $100,000 for priority projects involving physical improvements to public property

Steps to becoming a Registered Neighborhood: (pdf, doc)
- Contact your Neighborhood Commissioner or Neighborhood Office Staff representative
- Assess your neighborhood organization' effectiveness
- Based on the results, the organization sets goals for, at least, the next 2 years
- Present your organization, its purpose and its goals to the Capacity Committee of the Neighborhood Commission
- Present to the Neighborhood Commission
- Be approved by City Council
