Chief Jordan Chief Charles "Chuck" Jordan, a 30-year veteran of the Hampton Police Division, was named acting police chief on January 1, 2004. After the conclusion of a national search, on February 9, 2004 Jordan was selected to serve as Hampton 's Police Chief by George Wallace, City Manager, to lead the 400 plus member Police Division.

Chief Jordan joined the Hampton Police Division in April 1978. He has worked in virtually every area of the Police Division progressing through the ranks and gaining expertise in all aspects of law enforcement. Chief Jordan has served in numerous command assignments and worked in a variety of capacities during his career. As Police Major, he was Commander of the Police Operations Branch and Commander of the Professional Standards Branch. As Captain, he served as the Commander of Police Administration and as Lieutenant; he served as the Commander of Personnel and Training and also as Watch Commander of a Uniform Patrol Shift. Chief Jordan's assignments as Sergeant included Internal Affairs/Professional Standards, Law Enforcement Accreditation Manager and Uniform Patrol Shift Sergeant. As Corporal, he worked in Investigative Services as a detective where he was assigned to the Crimes Against Persons Unit and the Crimes Against Property Unit. As an Officer, he was assigned to Uniform Patrol as a police patrol officer. Additionally, Chief Jordan has served as a member of the Divisions Tactical Unit from 1980 to 1987 and has also served as Chair of the Police Honor Board and the Accident and Safety Review Board. In 1990, he was recognized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars as Officer of the Year; and in 1994 was awarded the Divisions Meritorious Service Award.

Chief Jordan earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Old Dominion University, graduating Magna cum Laude, and thereafter went on to obtain his Masters Degree also from Old Dominion University in Urban Studies (December 2002). He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy (194th Session) which is based in Quantico VA , and, the University of Richmond Police Executive Leadership School (March 2002), where he was elected class president. In addition, he has participated in hundreds of hours of law enforcement training, including the University of Louisville Southern Police Institute Homicide Investigation School . He has also been a certified Firearms Instructor, Certified General Instructor, FBI/NA Instructor, and is a past Adjunct Professor at Thomas Nelson Community College .

Chief Jordan is a native and resident of Hampton and resides with his wife, Penny, and son, Chet.
