PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS
Can you do it?

The job of the Telecommunicator is the back bone of the Public Safety System. Without it, there would be no 9-1-1 to call during an emergency, and no one to send help when it is needed. Public Safety Telecommunicators are true first responders. Are you qualified??

CAN YOU:

  • make quick and sound life and death decisions based on information you are given over the phone or radio?
  • work independently?
  • type quickly and accurately?
  • MULTI-TASK???
  • take responsibility for the lives of emergency responders and citizens in your hands?
  • effectively deal with frightened, hysterical, abusive and/or intoxicated subjects over the phone?
  • work any shift, on any day, in any weather, even when other family members evacuate?

If your answer to these questions is YES! Then this may be a career for you! The Hampton Public Safety Communications Unit offers on the job training and an in house DCJS Certified Telecommunicator Academy if you are hired.
