Project Stay Informed

The Hampton Police Division has started a new project called "Project Stay Informed". This initiative is an email notification procedure that advises citizens in the community of reported criminal activity or patterns and crime prevention tips that assists in hardening neighborhood targets. Basically, members of the unit daily track where crime is occurring (robberies, burglaries, stolen vehicles) and those crimes are plotted on a unit map. If the unit observes an area or neighborhood experiencing two or more crimes ina specific area then that Neighborhood Watch Coordinator is informed through a Neighborhood Watch Alert. This alert will detail the type of crime that occurred, what street the crime occurred on, how the crime occurred, and the suspect's description. we in turn would like the coordinator to immediately distribute this information to the block captains whom should immediately distribute this infomration throughout their neighborhoods. Through this continued paternership in crime fighting, we will continue have the lowest crime rate in the region and continue making the City of Hampton the most livable city around. Anyone who is interested in starting a Neighborhood Watch should contact the Community Relations Unit at (757) 727-6574.
