The Hampton Police Division is concerned with the problems associated with alcohol consumption by the youth of our community. The Life Force program is a joint effort between the Community Relations Unit and Special Investigations Units, Uniform Patrol and the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to target underage drinking and keg parties, as well as the sale of alcohol to minors.
Mission
- To target and reduce the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors by local, ABC licensed retailers.
- To enhance community awareness concerning underage drinking and the toll it takes on the entire community, i.e. deadly traffic accidents.
- To educate the public on the widespread problem of minors purchasing alcoholic beverages.
- To target keg partying by underage citizens in private homes.
Life Force is a program designed to address the problem of minors purchasing alcohol. It is a joint effort conducted by the Community Relations Unit, Special Investigations, and Uniform Patrol in cooperation with the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board who provides information to the Division on problem locations. One five person team is formed to function during the operation. SIU provides one Electronics Operations Officer and one Corporal to act as the Supervisor, Patrol provides one Cadet and two Patrol officers. The plain clothed Cadet (under 21 years of age) operates in an undercover capacity in an attempt to purchase alcohol from targeted ABC licensed retailers. Undercover Officers are on-sight to observe the transaction and subsequently take enforcement action. Prior to and following each mini-operation, a press conference is held to gain maximum impact upon retailers' attitude with a minimum of enforcement effort. The program's goal is to enhance community awareness and to educate the public on the problem of minors purchasing alcohol.
