The Hampton Police Division maintains its own academy. The Basic Law Enforcement Class is a 19 week course that runs two times a year. Course material includes legal, firearms, defensive tactics, driver training, accident investigation, report writing, and physical fitness. The academy is primarily held during daytime hours Monday through Friday, and 100% attendance is required.

Police Recruits employed with the Hampton Police Division will receive a starting salary of $36,500 and all City provided benefits. After successful completion of the academy and OJT, the recruit will receive a minimum salary of $38,550.
