- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age upon graduation from Academy (at least 20 years of age when applying).
- Must be a United States citizen.
- Graduated from an accredited high school or successfully completed a GED.
- Must be courteous yet firm with the public.
- Must be alert, and possess ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
- Must be observant and possess good memory skills.
- Must have excellent moral character, to include no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude.
- Must be in excellent health and physical condition.
- Must pass City paid background check to include a polygraph examination, a psychological evaluation, and/or a physical examination, depending upon position applied for.
- Must possess or be able to possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
- Must have a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton 's criteria.
- Must have a favorable credit report.
- Successfully complete all elements of the selection process.
