HAMPTON SEEKING A CITIZEN TO SERVE ON THE FINANCE COMMITTEE

The Hampton City Council is seeking a Hampton resident to serve on the Finance Committee.

The Hampton City Council is charged with the responsibility for setting financial policies, levying taxes, allocating the revenues and overseeing government operations. One of the Council's primary goals is to encourage efficiency and efficacy in program execution and alignment with the various strategic plans. The purpose of the Finance Committee is to enhance the Council's role through developing a broad scoped, strategic view of city finances and providing appropriate analysis and advice in support of Council's decision-making processes. The committee's activities include off-cycle budget analysis, review of financial and investment policies, tracking major projects and investments, monitoring key financial performance indicators and developing multi-year income, expense and capital projections.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of corporate and/or governmental generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Ability to analyze financial and management problems
  • Understanding of recordkeeping
  • Understanding of government organizing and operating principles
  • Understanding of business principles
