![]() May 18, 2009HAMPTON SEEKING A CITIZEN TO SERVE ON THE INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITYThe Hampton City Council is seeking a Hampton resident to serve on the Industrial Development Authority. The Industrial Development Authority of the City of Hampton, Virginia (IDA) is a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia, created pursuant to the Section 15.2-4900, as amended, of the Code of Virginia. A 7-Member Board of Directors appointed by the Hampton City Council governs the IDA and in which all powers of the authority shall be vested. The powers of the IDA are set forth in Section 15.2-4905 of the Code of Virginia. However, Hampton's City Code specifically requires the IDA to acquire the consent of City Council before it finances any projects of any type or nature whatsoever. In addition, the city manager is authorized to enter into on behalf of the city contracts, agreements, and other documents setting forth the understandings between the IDA and the city. Desirable qualifications include knowledge or expertise acquired through experience or formal education in one or more of the following areas/disciplines:
