HAMPTON SEEKING A CITIZEN TO SERVE ON THE WETLANDS BOARD

The Hampton City Council is seeking a Hampton resident to serve as an alternate on the Wetlands Board.

The Wetlands Board is a 7-member body, appointed by the City Council. Their purpose is to investigate all projects, whether proposed or ongoing, that alters wetlands within the City of Hampton. The Wetlands Board has the power to prosecute all violations of any order of such board or any violation of any provision. They also have the ability to renew applications to use or develop wetlands.

Desirable qualifications include:

A. Priority Qualifications:
  1. Education and/or professional background in environmental and/or marine sciences with an emphasis in wetlands science, wetlands delineation, wetland habitats etc.
  2. Background and/or professional experience in commercial and residential waterfront development, marina operation, pier and dock construction and shoreline and coastal protection.
  3. Experience in environmental law and permitting.
  4. Experience in environmental engineering and/or environmental planning.
  5. Involved citizens who have successfully completed one or more Tidal Wetlands Workshops provide by the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences (offered each Spring and Fall)
B. Secondary Qualifications:
  1. Completion of Hampton's Neighborhood College
  2. Competed of at least one term on the Hampton Planning Commission and/or the Hampton Neighborhood Commission.
