Mayor's 2007 Civic Improvement Awards

December 21, 2007

At the Mayor's Civic Improvement Awards ceremony held December 18, Mayor Ross Kearney recognized Hampton businesses and organizations for their efforts to improve the visual appearance of the city through landscaping, building improvements, and other beautification efforts.

"Everything you do today reflects on tomorrow," Mayor Kearney told the recipients. "Great things are occurring in our area. We in Hampton are really doing things the right way."

The 2007 recipients are 7-Eleven Store on Aberdeen Road, Bluewater Yacht Marina, Burlington Coat Factory, Coliseum Central BID, Firestone Tire Company, Hampton Roads Surgical Center, Hilton Garden Inn, J.C. Penney, Kelly's Tavern, Langley Research Park, Nicholson-Cumming Funeral Home, Hampton Parks and Recreation, Queen Street Baptist Church, Race Coast on E. Pembroke Avenue, Sentara Center for Health and Fitness, Phoebus Coffee House, Towne Bank, and Virginia Association of Realtors.

This recognition effort, initiated 24 years ago, stresses that pride in our community is the cornerstone of a healthy and vibrant city. Investment in the city's physical appearance attracts new development and residents to our city, and helps to increase property values.
