Hampton Declares Local Emergency
and Opens Emergency Operations Center
Due to inclement weather Hampton declared a local state of emergency at 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2010 and activated the Emergency Operations Center at midnight. City public works personnel began treating roadways on Friday and continue to plow main roads and arteries throughout the storm. In addition, city departments continue to monitor the weather situation.
All Hampton city libraries, parks, and community centers have been closed today due to the storm.
Roadways are very slippery and citizens are encouraged to stay off roads. Should they need to venture on to the roadways, seatbelts should be worn at all times and vehicles should proceed with extreme caution.
Homeless citizens are being sheltered through A Night's Welcome sponsored by Hampton Ecumenical Lodging and Provisions (HELP) throughout the storm.
