Armistead Avenue ConstructionAugust 14, 2007Construction is set to begin this month on the improvements to the segment of Armistead Avenue from the vicinity of Pine Chapel Road to the Mercury Boulevard intersection. The project will involve the elimination of roadside ditches and installation of new sidewalk along that segment of Armistead Avenue; and an additional southbound lane will be added along the west side of Armistead Avenue, from Mercury to Pine Chapel Road. Also, at the intersection of Mercury Boulevard and Armistead Avenue, triple left turn lanes will be created for both southbound and northbound traffic on Armistead Avenue in order to relieve the traffic congestion at that intersection. The project will also include extensive landscaping and an entryway feature for the Coliseum Central Business Improvement District around Mercury Boulevard intersection. The project is being constructed by Curtis Contracting Inc. of West Point, Virginia at a cost of approximately $4 million and the work is expected to take approximately 12 months to complete.
