Looking for a chance to do some good fishing in Hampton?
It's almost time to grab your pole and head out to Buckroe Beach!
The new Buckroe Fishing Pier, at 330 S. Resort Blvd., will experience a Grand Opening at 10:00AM on Saturday, May 30. Ceremonies will be hosted by Juliet Bickford, early evening anchor for WTKR News Channel 3.
The 706-foot pier is located near Point Comfort Road, in the same area as the previous pier which was destroyed by Hurricane Isabel. The new pier, supported by concrete pilings with wooden decks and railings, is 16 feet wide and is equipped with rest rooms, a snack bar and bait shop. The "T" section at the end of the pier is 70 feet wide and 26 feet long. The pier also has two shelters, two fish cleaning stations, and an adjacent parking lot.
Following the Grand Opening and during this first season, as the city determines the most practical usage schedules for the future, the pier will be open 24/7 through the fishing season. Typical fishing season for the area runs April through October.
All required licensing for the general public to fish off the pier has been purchased. Individual fishing licenses are not required.
