![]() May 21, 2009CITY OF HAMPTON SELECTS DEVELOPERS FOR BUCKROEThe City of Hampton has selected Buckroe Beach Development, LLC and POH 2010, LLC to develop city-owned land located in Buckroe. City Council will vote on the finalized agreements at the June 10 City Council meeting. Buckroe Beach Development, LLC, headed by William Fuller of Fulco Development, Inc and Bruce Smith of Bruce Smith Enterprise along with POH 2010, LLC led by Tommy Thompson, appointed Peninsula Housing and Builders Association committee chair and president of local development company Harrison & Lear, will both produce developments that adhere to the Buckroe Beach Master Plan and Pattern Book. The Master Plan calls for a mix of housing ranging from single-family homes to mansion-style three or four unit condominium buildings. "The co-developments proposed by these two highly qualified groups promise an exciting kickoff to the City's plans for redevelopment in the Buckroe community and will showcase the unique qualities of this area," notes Mayor Molly Joseph Ward, City of Hampton. "These selections are based on criteria developed through an extensive public engagement process that involved the City, citizens and outside consultants. While these planning efforts took several years, we are confident these two projects are the right projects at the right time for achieving new excellence in Buckroe." Hampton City Councilman George Wallace comments, "The proposed development on these Buckroe lots is the perfect complement to the development planned for the beach front property at Fort Monroe. We really have something to be excited about here." POH 2010, LLC is planning a spring 2010 Parade of Homes which will highlight redevelopment opportunities in Buckroe. The houses will be built by a variety of builders who are members of the Peninsula Housing and Builders Association. The city-owned land that will be utilized for these developments was identified in the Buckroe Beach Master Plan for future residential development. The property is expected to be rezoned to Special Public Interest - Buckroe Bayfront District (SPI-BBD) to ensure any development of this land will preserve the special characteristics of the Buckroe community. The developments will also complement the recent investment in new park space, reconfigured parking, landscaping, lighting and infrastructure improvements in Buckroe. Both groups presented to City Council at the March 11, 2009 afternoon work session in which they highlighted their commitment to incorporating green design and principles as well as utilizing certified SWaM (Small, Woman- and Minority-owned) contractors for the project.
