Calling All Nature Enthusiasts!
January 24, 2007
During February, Hampton Parks and Recreation Department is offering a number of interpretive programs for nature enthusiasts. Below are just a few of the many programs offered.
Sunday Nature Hike/Meet the Animals
Sunday, February 4, 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., Sandy Bottom Nature Park Nature Center
Join a park ranger for a leisurely nature hike. Start out in the Nature Center to learn the history of Sandy Bottom Nature Park and look at our critters, and then hike along the lake to observe the lake's natural habitats. Finally, visit our Wildlife Education Area where we are caring for non-releasable wildlife.
For Goodness Snakes
Sunday, February 11, 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., Sandy Bottom Nature Park Nature Center
Are you fascinated by snakes? Do they frighten you? You can learn many interesting facts about snakes and why they are to be welcomed, not feared. Learn which venomous as well as non-venomous snakes live at the park. You will have the opportunity to touch and look at several snakes up close. This is a fun ex-ssss-perience for the whole family!
Winter Feast for Wildlife
Saturday, February 17, 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Sandy Bottom Nature Park Nature Center
Who feeds the animals in the winter when there's no much left for them to eat? You can, toucan! Join a Park Ranger to create a feast for Sandy Bottom Nature Park's wild birds and mammals. You will even make enough to take some home to your own backyard buddies. Weather permitting; this program will take place in the Lakeside Pavilion, otherwise we'll move indoors to the Nature Center Indoor Classroom.
Please sign up for programs at the Nature Center at Sandy Bottom Nature Park or call 825-4657 for reservations or for more information on these programs and others visit www.hampton.gov/sandybottom. There is a nominal fee for most of the programs.
