Historic Hampton Carousel Opens for Season

June 20, 2008

After a winter hiatus and building upgrades that will help preserve the historic horses, the Hampton Carousel will open June 21 for the 2008 season. The City of Hampton made many upgrades to the building including tented glass and heating and air conditioning. These upgrades will enable the carousel to operate year round.

A restored 1920s merry-go-round, the Hampton Carousel is one of only 200 antique carousels still in the United States. Housed in a pavilion on Downtown Hampton's beautiful waterfront, the Hampton Carousel is a rare and beautiful example of American folk art.
