![]() June 4, 2010Hampton Designated as a Citizen-Engaged Community
The Public Technology Institute (PTI) has designated the City of Hampton as a Citizen-Engaged Community for its efforts to provide the public with multi-channel access to government services and information. Hampton, the only city in Virginia to receive the designation, was specifically highlighted for its website, 311 Customer Call Center, citizen participation efforts, and use of social media sites such as Facebook. PTI’s Citizen-Engaged Communities Designation challenges local government to achieve high standards in citizen participation, seamless service delivery, and democratic accountability. The nine local governments that received the 2010-2012 designation were cited by an advisory board of local officials and representatives from the technology sector as having implemented “best practices” for their use of multiple platforms to advance new standards for citizen participation and government performance reporting. They are:
