City Of Hampton Announces

New Traffic Pattern For Commander Shepard Interchange at Magruder Boulevard

January 16, 2009

The City of Hampton will implement a new traffic pattern for Commander Shepard Boulevard at Magruder Boulevard the week of January 26 (pending favorable weather conditions). Commander Shepard Boulevard traffic will be redirected from the existing bridge allowing contractors to begin demolition and reconstruction of the Commander Shepard Boulevard Bridge over Magruder Boulevard.

  • The loop from Southbound Magruder to Commander Shepard will be detoured at Floyd Thompson Boulevard (north of the bridge).
  • The ramp(s) from WB Commander Shepard to Magruder will be diverted on to the newly constructed ramp (east of the bridge).
  • Additionally, Northbound and Southbound Magruder Boulevard traffic will experience a new temporary signal (south of the bridge), otherwise Northbound and Southbound Magruder Boulevard will remain unaffected.

This work is part of the ongoing improvements to extend Commander Shepard Boulevard scheduled to be completed by May 2010. Motorists can visit www.hampton.gov/publicworks for more information, or contact the City of Hampton @ 757.727.6346
