John Veneziano Selected as Director of Public Works

John Veneziano has been selected as Hampton's new Director of Public Works, effective February 20.

Veneziano holds a bachelor's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Civil Engineering with a water resources concentration and is a registered professional engineer in Virginia.

Prior to his position with the city, Veneziano was the Director of Public Works for the City of Fairfax, Virginia since 1989 and prior to that was an engineer in the same city. Veneziano also held the position of Hydraulics/Hydrology Engineer for Bechtel, Inc. Under Veneziano's leadership, the Fairfax Public Works Department developed a number of programs that were the first of their kind in Virginia. The department was nationally recognized for several of its innovative programs.

As Director of Public Works, Veneziano will plan, direct, and administer policies and activities for a public works program to include design and construction of public buildings, major roadways, drainage systems, sewer systems, and safe traffic movements; maintenance of street, drainage, sewer, and traffic control systems; maintenance of city facilities; maintenance of the city fleet; refuse collection and disposal; energy production through a waste to energy plant; and review and inspection of private design and construction.
