For Immediate Release August 19, 2009

2nd Annual Kenneth Wallace Memorial "Fallen Hero" Golf Tournament

On August 21, 2009, the Kenneth Wallace Community Development Corporation (KWCDC) will host the 2nd Annual Kenneth Wallace Memorial "Fallen Hero" Golf Tournament at the Hampton's Golf Course. The KWCDC is hosting this tournament in order to raise funds to support scholarships for area students pursuing a degree in the field of criminal justice.

Over twelve years ago, a group of neighbors began meeting to develop a plan to reuse an old daycare building at 2315 Victoria Boulevard. The group envisioned a neighborhood resource center with a focus on community, safety and security. The building was completed in 1997 and provided a modern multipurpose space, dedicated to community use, which serves as a hub for neighborhood activities. The facility also serves as a meeting place, as well as, a neighborhood field office for Hampton Police officers. At the dedication, the building was named for Kenneth "Kenny" Wallace, a 7-year veteran of the Hampton Police Division who was killed in the line of duty on February 25, 1994. Kenny was a peninsula resident for over 22 years and a graduate of Hampton High School. He was deeply involved in community policing efforts and well known to the citizens and merchants in the City of Hampton.

A neighborhood effort from the start, the KWCDC still depends on neighborhood support, as well as, support of the Hampton community. For this "fallen hero" the KWCDC dedicates the 2nd Annual Kenneth Wallace Memorial "Fallen Hero" Golf Tournament. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Tee-off starts at 8:30 a.m. All members of the media are welcome to attend this worthy event.
