Department of the Army Invites Public Input for the
When: 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. on January 30, 2007
In compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act, the Department of the Army, Fort Monroe will conduct a Scoping Meeting on January 30, 2007, at the location and time listed above to solicit input on the scope of the EA for the BRAC action for Fort Monroe, Virginia. The purpose of the Scoping Meeting is to seek public input on issues that should be addressed in the EA to augment comments previously received by the City of Hampton and the Local Redevelopment Authority (LRA). Federal, state, and local agencies, federally recognized tribes, individuals, and organizations that have an interest are urged to participate. The meeting is open to the public and, after opening statements, will be held open-house style. Members of the public may attend at their convenience during the above time period. The Department of the Army, Fort Monroe invites open comment on the activities proposed to implement the BRAC Commission's recommendation pertaining to the closure of Fort Monroe. The EA will evaluate the potential environmental and socioeconomic effects associated with the proposed action. The EA will consider a range of alternatives to accommodate the BRAC Commission's recommendation, including proposals submitted by the LRA. The Army encourages comments from all citizens and agencies. Written questions or comments concerning the development of the EA will be accepted at the Scoping Meeting or may be submitted to Environmental Division, Directorate of Public Works, 318 Cornog Lane, Fort Monroe, Va 23651-1110 or by e-mail to (monr.monroedpw@monroe.army.mil).
