Citizen Applicants Sought For
Fort Monroe Reuse Steering Committee

The City of Hampton is seeking citizens to serve on the new Fort Monroe Reuse Planning Steering Committee.
This Committee will include key Fort Monroe and organizational stakeholders, 3 volunteer representatives from the Buckroe and/or Phoebus areas, and the City at large. The Committee will provide critical input and review of the Fort Monroe redevelopment plan which will be developed over the 2006 calendar year. The final result of the Committee's activity will be making a recommendation to the Hampton Federal Area Development Authority on a redevelopment plan for Fort Monroe. This redevelopment plan will guide the future reuse of the Fort Monroe property.
The basic skills that are needed for this position are:
- Ability to work within a group of stakeholders on complex issues.
- An understanding of the real estate market and its impact on land use decisions.
- Ability to study and evaluate the complex financial, environmental, and regulatory issues associated with transitioning a closed military facility to a productive, market driven reuse.
- Ability to understand modern concepts for historic preservation including adaptive reuse of historic structures.
- Willingness and ability to explain information and issues to other citizens and to understand and present their viewpoints even when in conflict with one's own point of view.
